Benchmarks in the Custom Home Process 6. FieldworkOnce the contract is signed, we will apply with the appropriate municipality for a construction permit. The permit process can take approximately two to four weeks (or more) depending on the municipality. Once your foundation has been poured and backfilled, you can expect construction to take five to twelve months depending on weather conditions and the complexity of the home. The expected construction time from completion of foundation will be noted in your sales contract. Our owners and our employees can be found on your job site daily making sure that everything runs as smooth as possible. We believe that a significant and consistent presence on the job site is necessary for effective communication and quality control. Once we have completed a thorough and well-documented design and selection process, the key is to create the design in the field. From time to time, you will be asked to schedule specific visits with us to review the progress on your home. In between visits, we will also maintain contact with you to answer additional questions and concerns that may arise. We find that part of being a true custom homebuilder entails assessing just how involved the customer wants to be. We want you to feel that you are part of the team that is building your new home; but, if circumstances dictate that you keep your involvement to a minimum, we are happy to use our talents to meet any needs you may have. While fieldwork involves the coordination of hundreds of hands, you will find our job sites to be some of the best organized in the industry! We think you will find our subcontractors and suppliers in the field to be friendly and knowledgeable. If you are unhappy with anyone you encounter in the field , please contact us immediately. The people working in the field are often working under some of the most challenging conditions you can imagine. They deserve our respect not only for their talents but also for their fortitude and endurance. We place a high priority on maintaining an atmosphere of mutual respect and teamwork. We believe that this positive atmosphere improves the overall quality of your home.
